Former Droitwich social worker jailed for historic sex offences on vulnerable boy

A FORMER social worker labelled a 'sexual predator' has been jailed for historic sex offences on a boy under 16-years-old who was in a care home at the time.

Brian William O'Leary, was sentenced to nine years in prison today (Wednesday, July 10) at Worcester Crown Court.

The 66-year-old from Oakland Avenue in Droitwich, denied four charges of indecent assault and one charge of attempted buggery on a boy under the age of 16 but was found guilty following a week-long trial.

Legislation designed to protect children from sexual offences is failing, the Scottish Conservatives have warned, as statistics suggested offences against young children have doubled in the past year.

Only 14 Risk of Sexual Harm Orders (RSHOs) have been issued since they were introduced in 2005.

The Protection of Children and the Prevention of Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2005 brought in the orders to protect children from those who display inappropriate behaviour towards them.
