Lawsuit Proceeds for Canada’s Lost Generation of Stolen Babies

The children who were taken from their families during the Sixties Scoop are known as a hidden generation among those fighting for justice.

A class-action lawsuit against the Canadian government on behalf of tens of thousands of indigenous children who were seized and moved to white families in an adoption wave known as the “Sixties Scoop” can now proceed after being approved by an Ontario judge.

The decision was handed down after several previous lawsuits in Canada failed, and as attention in the U.S. focused on the Baby Veronica custody case.

Reports of child abuse fall short of reality

CHILD abuse is being vastly over-reported in Australia, with the head of the government's family research body identifying a wide gulf between notifications of alleged abuse and the claims being substantiated.

Australian Institute of Family Studies director Alan Hayes will today argue that with five times as many abuse allegations as confirmed cases, the nation needs to rethink its approach to child protection by avoiding "moral panic".

While he does not minimise the significance of the harm that flows from child abuse, which he describes as extremely serious, he believes the system must be

Not if it isn't true
by Kevin D. Annett

Being Christmas, this is the season of lies; so it's a good time to talk about healing and reconciliation.

Canadians, especially, seem obsessed with those two words these days, and prattle on about them with the kind of hopeless desperation displayed by parents who keep insisting to their maturing children that there really is a Santa Claus.

Burying the hatchet is always a good thing for those with the bigger hatchet, much as the law is good for the man with property, and terrible for the one without it.
