These girls and boys must be better cared for and watched over.

Recent sting operations revealed that more than half of the children being traded for sex come from foster care. The same children identified by our courts as most in need of protection from abuse and neglect are being bought and sold everywhere from truck stops and cheap motels to wealthy suburbs. They are being used, reused, and then discarded like trash.

Since 1971, seven Maine children reported missing have not been found

BANGOR, Maine — Dozens of children are reported missing every month in the state, but almost all are found or return on their own within a couple of days or even hours, Maine Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Friday.
 
Only about once a decade does a child go missing for longer than a few days, he said.
 
Friday marked the fifth day since 15-year-old Nichole Cable was reported missing from her Glenburn home.

Foster child disappears, found drowned in pond

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - A 9-year-old autistic girl went missing Saturday afternoon, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

According to officials, Ariyanna Pivachek was a foster child. She was visiting a possible adoptive family. The family had picked her up to attend a party with other children.

Authorities say there were several adults monitoring the children. Somehow, the little girl managed to wander away from the party. She went into the backyard of the home.

Just after 3:30 p.m. the family reported the girl missing. Deputies began an immediate search for the little girl.

Missing baby feared dead; Sacramento County deputies criticize CPS

Law enforcement authorities are worried that a baby boy last seen 11 months ago may be dead, and they say Sacramento County Child Protective Services failed for all that time to alert them the boy was missing.

"We can't ignore the possibility that the baby is no longer alive," said Sacramento sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos. "The disconcerting thing is that no family members or friends of (the mother) can say they've seen the baby since April 2011."

Dwight Stallings would be 22 months old today.

His mother, Tanisha Edwards, was arrested last week by Elk Grove police
