Bid to change the Victoria's adoption legislation failed

Victorian independent MP Geoff Shaw has sided with Labor in a failed bid to change part of the coalition's forced adoption bill.

Controversial independent MP Geoff Shaw has sided with Labor in a failed bid to change the government's adoption legislation.

Mr Shaw has attacked the government over the bill, especially penalties for parents who contact their adult adopted children against their wishes.

People who do so face fines of more than $8000 under the changes.

Mr Shaw on Thursday voted with the opposition in a failed bid to have the government redraft its bill after further

CHILLIWACK, B.C. — One of the early members of Canadian rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive had a sexual relationship with a girl between the age of 11 and 14, a B.C. judge was told this week.

“I felt the relationship was very sick,” Stacy Bohun, 24, recalled during court testimony in B.C. Supreme Court, where Tim Bachman is on trial for sex assault, sexual interference of a person under 14 and sexual touching of a young person.

“He would get me to sit on his lap and kiss him,” she added.

The most important thing we need you to understand is that the system failed this little girl

My name is not important. The name that is important is a 4 year old girl named Marley. Marley is my niece and this family is asking for your help. Marley has been placed into a home with two men, whom she has accused of molesting her, by the very system that was supposed to protect her. One of these men is her own father. Before I start this story, I ask that you understand a few things. There are time lines in this that are rough estimates of when these events took place.

Drug Conference

on Wed, 03/20/2013 - 08:39

I found this really interesting they hold a DRUG AND ALCOHOL conference at LUNA PARK. It is just me that finds that strange. Plus they say they surved OLDER WELL OFF MALES. So once again here it goes, some folks are ok to use drugs and alcohol, that is, the rich, others are not, if they are poor DoCS/FaCS will be knocking on the door. It just astounds me, because it really is about the level of criminal minds, it is ironic, it is bizarre, it is condoning drug use by one sector in society and condeming it by another. ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY...

Why adopting in Australia is easier than you think

RAEWYN Scott and her husband can still remember the day adopted daughter Sasha came home to live with them.

“She was two and a half. It was a lovely experience. A big learning curve, and a major change because it had just been the two of us for so long. But it was so wonderful,” she said.

After six years of unsuccessful IVF treatment the Scotts had spent several more years on a long waiting list for international adoptions.

“We had just assumed that we couldn’t adopt a child from Australia.

It's been half a century since Donald and Sylvia Collard's children were taken away from them but the couple from Kondinin in WA's Wheatbelt still don't understand why.

"That's what we're going to court for," Mr Collard said.

"We hope they can answer some of these things."

The Collards and seven of their children are behind WA's first stolen generation claim for damages against the State Government, currently

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — More stringent hiring procedures and better retention policies by Los Angeles County social workers may have prevented the deaths of over a dozen children, according to a newly-uncovered report.

A confidential county report obtained by the Los Angeles Times on policies at the troubled Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) found repeated and avoidable mistakes may have lead to the deaths of 14 children.

Child Protective Services is falling down on providing supervised parental visits

Child Protective Services is falling down on providing supervised parental visits

Child Protective Services is falling down on providing supervised parental visits and other critical services, private agencies hired by the state to provide those services say.

But CPS denies that's the case.

CPS announced it was cutting funding for supervised visits and parent assistance in December due to a $35 million budget shortfall, but reversed the decision a few weeks later in response to public opposition.

Flora Sotomayor, assistant CPS director, said during that time caseworkers were paid overtime to oversee court-ordered parental visits, and no families missed any visits.
