 Abuse by foster parents rare

With thanks to Legally Kidnapped.

Child abuse is an ongoing problem in the United States, while cases of abuse by foster parents are relatively rare, government data show.

Note: Yeah, we know.  Stooges for the agencies who are supposed to be objective.  Right?

You need to pay very careful attention to the wording of this article.  It contains word games, or plays on words and numbers plugging the myth of severity in effort to make it look worse from one side and better on the other.

Senator Pushing Major Overhaul Of Maine's Guardian Ad Litem System

Before David Dutremble got divorced in 2005 and fought for shared custody of his children, he had never heard of a guardian ad litem.

Now, in his first term as a state senator, Dutremble is leading an effort to reform what he considers a broken system, in which judges assign specially registered lawyers or mental health workers to step into the most contentious cases, such as divorces, to represent the children.

Dutremble, a Democrat from Biddeford, has filed a bill to make sweeping changes to Maine's guardian ad litem

Report into Irish child deaths in State care 'a litany of shame'

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has described a highly critical report into the deaths of 196 young people who were in contact with the State's care services as a "litany of shame".

The report of the Independent Child Death Review group focuses on the deaths of young people in contact with the State’s child-protection services between 2000 and 2010.

Of the 196 deaths, some 112 died of non-natural causes such as drug overdoses, suicides, road incidents or unlawful killings.

“Ultimately and tragically the efforts to protect these children failed,” the report said.

Among the key findings are that:

Fighting for Families Support Group

Why did we feel this was necessary? Because unless you have been through the fight of your life for the most precious gift, a child, then you can not understand the pain, fear, and desperation that someone who has walked this path goes through everyday.

We need support from people who can really understand simply because they have been in our shoes.

Infant kidnapped, tortured by government state officials

It began as a routine check-up. New parents Calob and Ashly had taken their 2.5-month old baby, Caden, to a weight specialist because he was slightly underweight. As far as they knew, they were doing a great job with Caden, feeding him everything he needed and performing the duties of responsible parents. They had gone along with their pediatrician's recommendation to see the specialist because they wanted to be certain nothing was wrong.

But after a few minutes in the examination room, the appointment turned into an ambush.

Fight Child Protection Department Corruption:

Recent high-profile stories of adopted children being starved have officials reviewing placement guidelines.

An alleged child starvation case near Longview is one of more than a dozen cases -- including one death -- that have state officials reviewing how adopted children are placed and treated.

The number of abuse cases is small compared to all adoptions.

11 children died while in province's care last year

Fight Child Protection Department Corruption:

Critics seek greater accountability of welfare officials

Child welfare officials must be more accountable to the public when children die while in the province's care - as 11 did last year - critics say.

The province's Human Services Department released its annual report on Thursday, detailing the deaths and 17 additional cases where children required hospitalization after being injured while in care.

Provincial legislation protects the identities of children in care, but the grandmother of one of the children who died last year said it also prevents necessary public scrutiny of the system.

Next step for abused children still evolving

on Tue, 05/22/2012 - 21:07

The number of children removed from abusive homes in Maine has declined more than 50 percent in the past decade, as the Department of Health and Human Services has pursued a policy of keeping children with parents unless they face physical abuse or serious neglect.

Note: You all need to pay very close attention to what is being said in this article. Believe it or not, over the last 10 years Maine has become a national model child welfare system, because they managed to cut the number of kids in foster care in half. I know they still suck at what they do.

Wisconsin officials still 'in denial' of child welfare failures

on Sun, 05/13/2012 - 07:14

Thirty-five years ago, as a young reporter for Wisconsin Public Radio, I produced a series of reports on child abuse and foster care. I was stunned to find that what was then the state Department of Health and Social Services didn't even know how many children were in foster care or how long they stayed in care. We had to send out our own survey to all 72 counties.

Today, the data gathering has improved – in part because federal aid depends on it. But reading John Elliott, from what is now the Department of Children and Families, respond to Gannett Wisconsin Media's stories about child abuse

Children used by warring parents in bitter family law cases

on Fri, 04/27/2012 - 11:01

WARRING mums and dads are going to unprecedented lengths to poison their children's minds against each other, Australian research shows.

Courts are struggling to cope with increasingly bitter family law cases involving one parent turning their child against the other.

Behaviour includes false allegations of abuse, constant denigration of the other parent, asking the child to carry hostile messages and spying, according to a visiting academic.

Professor Nicholas Bala, from Queen's University in Ontario, Canada, looked at 74 Australian cases of child alienation and has found a
