TORONTO - A slender, blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl suffered eight years of horrific physical and sexual abuse starting when she was just seven at the hands of the man the Children’s Aid Society entrusted to keep her safe.

A jury found Mac Bool Hassan guilty eight days ago of 13 criminal offences for sexually and physically abusing the girl — who isn’t biologically related to him — as well as assaulting her half-brother.

The verdict was reached swiftly after only fours hours of deliberations because the evidence was overwhelming, said Crown attorney Heather Keating.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- An Eyewitness News Exclusive: A Santa Ana man in court, charged with sexually abusing two foster children he later adopted. Police say a videotape and photos played a major role in his arrest.

Police allege Felipe Hernandez sexually assaulted two girls, both foster children placed in his care. He and his wife later adopted them.

"He raped them, he sodomized them, just a myriad of charges," said Santa Ana Police Corporal Anthony Bertagna.

Police say they started investigating last month when one of the girls, now 15 years old, told a school counselor.

KIDS in foster care have hit an all-time high, after a 20 per cent surge in cases of abused and neglected children last year.

Alarm at soaring number of kids in foster care

A top child protection investigator yesterday accused social workers of "over reacting" to some reports of abuse, comparing the kids in care to the "stolen generation" of Aboriginal children.

The federal government's Australian Institute of Health and Welfare will reveal today that 12,240 children were put into foster care during 2011/12, resulting in a record 39,621 foster children.

Maine has just been rated third worst in the country for sex trafficking. The Bangor Daily News says Maine is a top source for the entire East Coast to procure children for sex abuse. Those who know Maine's history are not surprised.

Only a few years ago when students at the Baxter School for the Deaf tried to refuse sexual abuse by their director, Dr. Robert Kelly, he tied the children naked to a tree and left them alone, all night, in the Maine woods. The State of Maine protected Dr. Kelly and not the children. Maine's Attorney General (AG) refused to prosecute.
